"Lighting is my first true filmmaking love.  I have always been fascinated by the shadows that add mystique to our stories, inform our fears, and engage the viewers on a subconscious level.  It's the one thing about filmmaking that still feels like magic to this day. As a gaffer, I've been able to work with so many inspiring cinematographers, directors, producers and crew members.  I've learned to surround myself with people that have GREAT taste and cultivate a lighting (and storytelling) style that is emotional and authentic and ultimately entertaining;  these collaborations have truly been my filmmaking education.   I love the true craftsmanship of lighting, the physics of it, the shaping of it, the progression of ideas from theory to the tools and back again.  I love that moment when all the prep work comes to fruition; all the references, all the discussions, all the choices.  Our talent steps to their mark and there it is, that's what our movie looks like."  ---ag
