SHORT FILM: NO ROAD TO FOLLOW / DIR.JERMY RUSH / SUPER16mm
Alex, as a director, was the 2010 winner of the Avery Crounse award, "given to filmmakers that have captured a certain visual artistry in their work, where a film becomes more than just telling a story, it has become a visual poem."
Wid Winner & the Slipstream was specifically chosen "because of the richness of the cinematography, the visual character of the actors, and the overall consistency of story and technique.” The film went on to win 5 “best of” awards at various festivals and Alex was nominated for best director and best screenplay at multiple festivals and events.
Alex was also part of a trio of directors consisting of Hector Luis Bustamante and Jeremy Rush that directed the ambitious web-series “Caribe Road.” Caribe Road was nominated for Best Dramatic Web series by the prestigious Imagen Awards in 2012. "WID WINNER & THE SLIPSTREAM” - 2010
Alex completed his first film in 2010, “Wid Winner & the Slipstream.” With a borrowed station wagon, a thermos full of Tang, and an Aaton Super16mm camera, he and the cast traversed the U.S. from California to Kentucky… and they did it twice. Along the way Alex did his best to capture images that examine one's own idea of potential, the grace found in redemption, and the memory of those we have left behind.
“Wid Winner & the Slipstream” played at over 35 film festival nationwide and won both critic and audience awards at multiple festivals.
